Sony Ericsson Launched PlayNow Arena

Reported by Dow Jones, Sony Ericsson’s long awaited PlayNow Arena service will be launched in Nordic countries on 25 Aug 2008. The launch will initially be to the Nordic countries with Western European countries following later this year before the service goes global in 2009.

The service will draw on the back catalogues of Sony BMG, Warner Music and EMI as well as offering games, ringtones, applications, and themes for downloading, Sony Ericsson will have one million songs ready for customers in the Nordic countries, with the number eventually swell to five million. All the songs will be free of any DRM protection, so you can copy your songs unrestrictedly, which can be very useful if you get a new phone, computer, etc.

The songs downloaded from PlayNow Arena are expected to sell for a similar price as those found on Apple’s iTunes service, that is, around $0.99 / €0.99. Most games will go for about £4, but quite a few are said to be free.!

PlayNow Arena is expected to be available for most Sony Ericsson mobile phones newer than K800, so if your Sony Ericsson mobile phone is a year or two old, you should be covered. If your phone, however, is not supported, you can use the PC client, and then transfer it to your phone.
