Sony Ericsson P990i

Sony Ericsson P990i cell phones, part of the family lines of the P-series Symbian smartphone from Sony Ericsson, measures at 114 x 57 x 25mm and weighs 150 g and is similar to the previous P900 and P910 model, but with better functionality and features.

This Sony Ericsson Cell Phones is a 3G UMTS cell phone that support the tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) and GPRS and it also has a 802.11b Wireless Ethernet (WiFi) support. The P990i model has a 262K color touchscreen with resolution of 240×320 pixel. Included is the 2 megapixel built-in digital camera and although the internal memory that comes with the cell phone is only 80MB, it can further expand through the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, which can go up to 2GB. Familiar features that you would have expected include the Bluetooth and the FM radio.

The Sony Ericsson P990i has a small alphabetic keyboard that is hide beneath the number pad. It will appear once you flip down the number pad. The P990i used the Symbian v9.1 operating system plus the UIQ 3.0 user interface and it also comes with the Opera 8 web browser, email client, plus a suite of PIM applications. It can further be used to edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, with added bonus of a viewer for PowerPoint and PDF files. Support for POP and push email, SMS, MMS and voice mail messages really easily with the P990i mobile phone.

The Sony Ericsson P990i is also able to synchronize with applications such as Microsoft Outlook, but, unfortunately, it does not synchronize through a standard USB to mini-USB connector, but uses Sony Ericsson’s proprietary version operating at USB 2.0 rates. You will need to set the phone to ‘file tranfer’ mode when you want to transfer data off the mobile phone memory and synchoronzing with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express requires you to switch the cell phone to ‘phone’ mode. When the phone is connected to a PC using the USB cable, the modes cannot be changed.

The Sony Ericsson P990i has a 3G talktime of up to 3 hours, 9 hours maximum talktime on GSM and the standby time is up to 12 days (3G) or 16 days (GSM).
